welcome to a one-day digital Biennial
Riga, Berlin, Haparanda, London, Potsdam, Warsaw, the Baltic Sea, and this year… your living room.
Due to COVID-19, a traditional Biennial is not possible.
Adapting to new situations is part of this time.
We do not cancel, we adapt.
While it is true that COVID-19 has caused immense health, social and economic effects, we are fortunate that technology allows us to continue communicating and working with one another.
Digital meetings bridge the distance between cities, countries, and continents.
However, they will never fully replace face-to-face meetings.
To shake hands, chat over a coffee, and be able to better perceive colleagues' body language, is invaluable.
The networking, cultural events and the travel experience of former Biennials have left us with many warm memories.
Hopefully, we can all meet face-to-face soon again, and create new memories together.
When this is not possible, the decision is to not skip the Biennial.
Digital events also bring joy and are definitely better than nothing.
I hope that this digital Biennial will give you new insights, inspiration, joy and the feeling of being connected.
Welcome to the digital Biennial 2021,
Ralf Spann, CEO

join the step challenge
One of the key features of the Biennial is exercise.
London and Haparanda had a half-marathon, Potsdam had a cultural walk, Mariehamn had cycling,
and this year will be no different.
Sign up to join the Biennial 2021 step challenge.
Working from home can greatly affect your daily incidental exercise.
Currently your walk to work might be less than a meter, and the trips to the coffee machine may no longer exist if you work from your kitchen.
These little reductions in exercise add up.
Boost your average step count with the Biennial’s week-long competition.
The rules are simple.
You record your daily steps in the event app.
When you sign up you are assigned to a team.
You compete as a collective.
The team with the highest average step count during the week wins.
The competition runs from 2021-05-20 to 2021-05-27.
To join the challenge, you need to register before 2021-05-13,
